With numerous new or enhanced assist systems, our engineers have written a new chapter in the long history of passenger car safety. The spotlight is now more than ever on avoiding traffic accidents and reducing the severity of accidents.

Depending on the severity of a collision, the adaptive front airbags in the SLK can be deployed in two stages (only the first stage is activated during a minor collision where the trigger threshold is exceeded). During lateral impacts exceeding a defined threshold, the head/thorax sidebags in the flanks of the seat backrests are deployed on the impact side.

Roll-over protection is a key component of the safety concept. A high-rigidity structure provides optimum protection even when driving with the roof open. The roll-over sensor detects critical driving situations and, in the event of specific side roll-overs, activates belt tensioners and, if applicable, deploys head/thorax sidebags.
