It there is one area that drives us to ever greater achievements more than any other, it is researching new safety technologies. We laid the foundation for supreme standards of occupant protection back in the fifties when Béla Barényi developed the passenger safety cell. Today it is just one of many components of PRO-SAFE™, the integral safety concept, which edges us ever closer to our vision of accident-free driving.
The integrated safety concept classifies automobile safety according to four phases. In the "safe driving" phase, the vehicle helps the driver to identify critical situations promptly and handle them safely. In the second phase ("in the event of danger"), PRE-SAFE® can activate a number of preventive measures to pre-emptively reduce potential stress on the occupants should an accident follow. "In the event of an accident", occupants can be protected by comprehensive safety systems. "After the accident" a series of further measures facilitate the task of the rescue services, for example.
