Those who have to travel a lot need to feel safe, especially in a world of ever-increasing security threats. Here it is important that a special-protection vehicle should not be recognisable as such, but maintain a low-key profile instead: discretion is of the essence.
Integrated protection from the outset – the integral protection concept of the E-Guard is not retrofitted, it is fully integrated in the vehicle right from the specifications book. Long before the vehicle is given its "face", our engineers are working on the complex task of perfectly harmonising the interaction between the effective protection offered by a safety vehicle, its increased weight, its adapted chassis, its modified control systems, and the benefits of an E-Class as well as comfort and everyday suitability.
Internationally recognised institutions take the entire vehicle under fire. The complete passenger compartment is tested and certified in accordance with protection level VR4. Surfaces, seams where different materials meet, functional joints, are all fired at, for instance in the door areas under random angles of fire. In addition the vehicle must prove itself under triangulated fire and pass the multi-hit test according to its certification. And what's more: we have successfully tested the optional floor armour at different points with the DM 51 hand-grenade.
The most important protection component: development expertise
This way, the E-Guard can guarantee something a retrofitted E-Class could never do: a full ex-factory warranty and all the maintenance services of a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. That means the E-Guard enjoys all the advantages the world's most successful business-class saloon, the E-Class: this is true of the innovative details and the dynamic exterior as well as of the high-quality, roomy interior, right down to the seating capacity for 5, for impressive day-to-day practicality. Virtually all the most innovative comfort and safety equipment is available for the E-Guard. The personal mark your E-Guard is to have, from the Exclusive package to designo, to the AVANTGARDE or ELEGANCE equipment lines, is entirely up to you.
Two engine variants ensure an agile driving performance, in the left-hand and right-hand drive variants: the E 350 V6 petrol engine and the top-of-the-line E 500 V8
All the assistance systems of an E-Class are available and fully operational, in spite of the vehicle's strong armoured glass.
The side windows on the driver's and front-passenger sides can be fully opened electrically, and powerful electric windows are also available for the rear compartment passengers.
An intercom system for communication with the outside, and a panic button which in case of danger makes the headlamps flash and an acoustic alarm sound, are optionally available.
And finally, but by no means less important, the tyres with run-flat characteristics which will allow you to escape from a dangerous situation even if they are completely deflated.
