The excellent level of safety offered by the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is rooted in the structure of its body and materials, as well as in the use of intelligent dynamic handling control and driving assistance systems.
Scientifically conducted surveys show that over 25% of all serious motorway accidents are caused by over tiredness. The new E-Class is equipped as standard with the class leading safety feature called “ATTENTION ASSIST”. This drowsiness detection system, which is unique in this segment, alerts drivers when they are becoming drowsy. In doing so, it enhances driving safety, particularly on long journeys and when driving at night and helps to prevent accidents.
The system is equipped with highly sensitive sensors that continuously monitor more than 70 different parameters. It analysis the driver’s behavior, in particular the steering wheel movements, searching for specific steering patterns, which occur more frequently when drowsiness sets in. Should an increasing number of steering wheel movements symptomatic of drowsiness be detected, “ATTENTION ASSIST” will emit a visual and audible warning. The system is operative at speeds between 80 and 180 km/h.
